Granite countertops are still very much in style in 2026. We've been fabricating and installing granite in El Paso since 1985, and demand hasn't slowed. What has shifted are the colors, finishes, and edge profiles homeowners choose — not the stone itself.

Granite Countertops Are Still in Style in 2026, Here's What the Data Shows

Let's just be upfront. Granite countertops are still here and staying strong. We've been fabricating and installing granite countertops in El Paso since 1985. Each year, someone will ask us the same question, "Is granite outdated?" And each year, the answer is still "No."

This isn't just an El Paso thing either. The 2025 design trends report from the National Kitchen and Bath Association still has natural stone in the top five countertop materials across the nation. And granite is still right there with it. Granite hasn't fallen out of it. Granite is still going strong in kitchens.

Why Granite Countertops Remain So Popular: Countertop materials are a little different from paint colors or cabinet handles. Countertop trends move a bit slower. That's not to say that we won't have a granite trend one day, but it's less likely. And one thing is clear, granite countertops aren't going anywhere. Granite's longevity is likely a big reason for its enduring popularity. No one wants to spend the money ripping out granite countertops a mere five years after the job because someone on the internet said it's outdated.

We still get it every week. Homeowners walk into our showroom on Gateway Blvd E expecting to pick quartz, but they see the granite slabs we imported directly from Brazil, they see the movement in the stone, and they rethink their decision. There's just something about the way real stone looks that other materials can't always achieve. I don't mean to bash quartz countertops; we install quite a lot of those, too. However, granite's beauty remains a big draw.

Here are a few reasons why granite countertops are still the right choice in 2026: While 2010s designs were ultra-coordinated, designers in 2026 are returning to a more organic, earthy feel. The patterns and colors in granite mean no two kitchens look the same. Improved sealer technology has made granite countertops a lot easier to maintain than they were a decade ago. Granite's status as a high-end countertop material hasn't changed in the decades since granite became popular in kitchens. A kitchen with granite countertops still has value.

That last point is especially relevant for folks living in the Borderland. El Paso's real estate market has remained strong in the past year, and houses in neighborhoods like the Westside and Upper Valley sell quickly when they show up on the market in good condition. Granite countertops can help draw homebuyers to a kitchen or bathroom. Granite countertops are still very relevant right now.

So Why Do People Think Granite Countertops Are Outdated? One thing we can point to is that there are quite a few content creators publishing design trends without any actual experience in the design field or with materials themselves. There are a lot of social media influencers who think it's their job to tell the rest of us that granite countertops are so last week. But they don't understand that real granite countertops will be cut and fabricated until the end of the world, because we do it every day.

We're fabricating granite countertops in El Paso several times a week. Sales are still strong. What has changed are the colors. Sure, it's a little old-fashioned to have dark granites with heavy brown and gold tones in your kitchen, but that's nothing to be ashamed of. White granites, neutral grays, and black slabs with big veining are selling out like hot cakes. Granite isn't out of style. Certain colors were. Nobody calls hardwoods out of style because honey oak fell out of favor a decade ago. Granite is the same. The granite on the market in El Paso today looks nothing like the granite your parents selected in 2004. We're pulling from quarries in Brazil with incredible selection: beautiful exotic colors, gorgeous soft whites, even some emerald green stones. These granites work great with any kitchen — contemporary, transitional, or minimal style.

Finish Options Have Changed: Granite used to come in only one finish: polished. Now, we fabricate our granite countertops in three finish options. Leathered finish: a textured, matte finish that hides fingerprints and gives granite a much more organic, hand-held feel. Honed finish: smooth, but not reflective, giving granite a modern feel. Polished granite countertops: still used often, especially for dark stone when a deeper, more reflective finish is desired.

In the last decade, all of these finish changes have made granite a more appealing and versatile option for many kitchen designs. Black Pearl is now offered leathered, so it's not the granite from 2005. We've installed leathered granite countertops for customers near Kern Place and the Upper Valley who wanted something contemporary and natural at the same time, and the results looked like something out of a magazine.

Edge Profiles Have Changed Too: Edge details matter more than you think. The fancy ogee and triple-step edges that were the signature of traditional kitchens are almost no longer requested. The current trend for our customers in El Paso is flat polished edges, a simple eased edge, or a mitered edge — granite countertops that look thoroughly modern.

If you want to see for yourself what the latest in granite countertops looks like, give us a call at (915) 345-3774 or come by the shop on Gateway Blvd E. When you look at a full-size granite slab in person, most people agree: granite countertops are still very much in style for 2026.

Why Granite Countertops Continue to Outvalue Most Other Countertop Materials

This is what we tell homeowners time and time again: granite countertops look good the day they are installed and keep their value for many years after. We've been fabricating and installing granite countertops in El Paso since 1985, and we've seen people sell their house with the same granite we installed twenty years ago — and the kitchen still looks really good.

This is not by chance. Granite is a real natural stone that was created millions of years ago under the Earth. Granite is what granite is. You cannot make something at a factory that has the depth and color and the mineral character that granite has.

Each stone from Brazil offers a distinctive aesthetic that buyers are drawn to. We also get frequent feedback from real estate agents in the Borderland area, who tell us repeatedly that granite countertops are one of the most-desired items on buyer checklists.

What makes granite a smart investment for the long run? A 2023 study by the National Association of Realtors concluded that kitchen renovations return a large part of their cost when it comes time to resell. Granite countertops are one of the most widely-known updates that homebuyers look for in a contemporary kitchen. But the benefits don't only apply to return on investment.

Think about what granite means over time: it withstands the heat of a stovetop or the intense light of an El Paso kitchen window; it withstands the daily wear-and-tear of cooking; the stone never goes "out of season" the way some materials eventually do; and it ages like wine, getting better-looking over the years rather than worse.

In neighborhoods like Coronado Hills and the Upper Valley, homeowners are investing in granite countertops for exactly that reason. They want a countertop material that stands the test of time without looking tired or outdated in just a handful of years. Granite does exactly what they expect of it, time and time again.

Why trends change but granite remains: Think back to the countertop trends from ten years ago. Several of them now feel a little worn or "over." Granite doesn't fall into that same pattern. It sits above a trend cycle because it's an earth-born material. A stunning slab of Brazilian blue is just as impressive in 2026 as it was in 2010, as is a rich, warm hue or a timeless black and white design.

Several years ago we worked with homeowners who first bought granite countertops in the early 2000s, and they've returned to our showroom because of our quality — not because the granite itself went bad. They want to remodel a second home or help their kids find the best stone for their first kitchen. That speaks volumes about the durability and timelessness of granite.

And a fact that many people aren't aware of: as some mining companies shift to other production, certain granite colors have become much harder to find. This lack of supply can mean that the value of your granite countertops increases with time. We've heard from El Paso homeowners whose property sold quickly because their granite was a deal-maker.

If you're thinking about granite for your kitchen, call us at (915) 345-3774 or stop by our showroom on Gateway Blvd E and run your hand over a slab or two. You'll feel the difference between products built to age well and those with only temporary appeal. Our family-owned team would be happy to walk you through the Brazilian granite we're currently sourcing and help you find a granite countertop that adds value to your home over the long term.
